Working with Boaters and Marine Trades for Cleaner Washington Water

Chinook Salmon and Heavy Metal Pollution

Over the course of three months, four undergraduate’s (including yours truly) at the University of Washington teamed up with the Clean Boating Foundation to create an educational video on the effects of heavy metal pollution on Chinook Salmon. Check out our work below!!

Chinook salmon are a keystone species of the Pacific Northwest, meaning they are a vital part of a healthy ecosystem. Between 1992 and 1999, nine populations of Chinook salmon were listed under the endangered species act. For boaters, reducing the amount of heavy metals  released into our water is one simple way that we can help the Chinook.

Many Thanks to: Pepper Hambrick at the Issaquah Hatchery, and our very own Peter Schrappen for making this happen!
